I strongly urge everyone to pay a visit to this particular Popeye's. Let me explain: I'm a fan of disaster tourism. I have visited some of the worst slums in America because I am fascinated by the crumbling abandoned buildings and the catastrophe of it all. Most of us don't see that sort of privation in our day-to-day lives. Visiting this Popeye's is a chance for disaster tourism in Springfield, Illinois. I approached the drive-through a little after 6 PM on a Saturday night, and with the dinner rush in full effect, the line of cars was at least 5 or 6 cars long. I attempted to enter the lobby to avoid the long line, but the door was locked. 99 times out of 100 I would simply drive away, but today something moved me in a different direction. A whisper in my ear telling me to wait it out in line. So I did. At least 10 minutes passed before the drive-through speaker would come alive. I understand why this happens sometimes. The order taker might have too many tasks to handle at once due to being under-staffed. It's a common problem. But that pace continued. It was no less than 10 minutes between each time the cars would move. When I finally got to the drive-up window, over an hour had passed since I got in line. I've seen MANY occasions where a single person (usually the manger) is running around like mad and doing the work of 3 other people because they are so understaffed. I expected to see the same scenario here. I was wrong. The gentleman at the window greeted me with a stare. After we settled our transaction, he disappeared off to the back. At this point, I was able to see that he was not alone. There were multiple staff members present, but nobody was working. The staff members were literally just wandering around aimlessly, taking sips of their drinks, and using their phones. After several minutes passed, the gentleman working the window returned and took an order through the intercom. Then he started bagging up my order. I watched him complete half of my order, pausing briefly to answer a call on his cell phone. A short time later, the rusty window swung open, and I received my food more than 60 minutes after I had arrived. The reason I urge everyone to visit this particular Popeye's, is because you will rarely get a chance to experience something this bad. Visiting this Popeye's is like driving through East St. Louis - it's a chance to stare with awe at how bad things can really get. When you have the opportunity to witness the lowest of the low in fast food, like this Popeye's, it makes you more thankful for what you have. When you see this Popeye's in action, you will truly understand how far we can sink as a civilization.

My favorite "fast food" is Popeyes and Chick fil a. I love popeyes food. All of it. Chic fil a has some great food. The service always great. I go to these restaurants all over the country. This popeyes food was great as Popeyes always is. The service was better than any Chick fil a. Christina, Blessed1, Sariah, Candy, and more, all were above and beyond. It was a great experience!
